This page provides information about the parameters available for linked and embedded .vrscene files in Chaos Envision.
Overview
The .vrscene file format is a text file that uses UTF-8 encoding (without BOM) and can be exported from all platforms that use V-Ray, Corona or Enscape. It contains all the information about the scene such as geometry, lights and shaders, and can be referenced as an asset in Envision. The .vrscene is Chaos' proprietary file format.
The .vrscene file is loaded into Envision from File > Import. The imported file is linked to the current Envision scene. This means that if you make changes to the imported file, it can be updated in Envision to reflect those changes.
The linked .vrscene file can become embedded. Embedding the scene unlinks it from the project and removes the possibility to reload and reapply your work in Envision.
Actions with Linked Files
A field for the name of the selected vrscene file. You can rename the vrscene. The new name is automatically displayed in the respective Objects filter tab.
Lock – Disables the vrscene transformation options (position, rotation, and scale). The options become greyed out. Click to enable the options for manipulation again.
Hide – Toggles the visibility of the element on and off. Invisible vrscene files are indicated by and are not rendered.
Move pivot – Opens the Pivot Point Adjustment settings. There you can move the pivot point.
Select hierarchy All – Selects the parent and all children of the current selection from within the scene hierarchy.
Select hierarchy Parent only – Selects only the parent of the current selection from within the scene hierarchy.
Select hierarchy All children – Selects the rest of the children in the scene hierarchy group the current selection belongs to.
Make instance unique – Excludes the selection from the rest of its instances and makes it unique. The action is disabled if the selection has no instances.
Select all instances – Selects all instances the selected object(s) has in the scene.
Embed scene – Embeds the scene by unlinking it from the project and removing the possibility to reload and reapply your work in Envision. Note that this action cannot be undone. The Embed scene functionality is disabled when the linked scene is unloaded.
Reset – Resets all linked scene modifications.
Revert – Restores all position, rotation and scale values to their default values, i.e to zero.
Add new version path – Loads a new version of the file and creates a separate path for it in the Version path list.
Replace scene – Replaces the loaded file with another in the Version path list.
Remove – Deletes the file from the Version path list. |
Position – Moves the .vrscene along the X, Y and Z axes.
Rotation – Rotates the .vrscene along the X, Y and Z axes.
Scale – Scales the .vrscene along the X, Y and Z axes.
Prevent selection of contents – Treats the .vrscene as a closed container. When selecting a child from the scene, the whole scene is selected.
Unload scene – Unloading scene reduces memory usage.
Version path – Shows the path to the loaded .vrscene file.
Actions with Embedded Files
Move along spline – Associates the selected file with a spline to define its direction of movement
Move along spline settings – Opens the Move along spline settings. Available when the Move along spline button is activated and a spline is selected.
Revert – Restores all position, rotation and scale values to their default values, i.e to zero. |
Position – Moves the .vrscene along the X, Y and Z axes.
Rotation – Rotates the .vrscene along the X, Y and Z axes.
Scale – Scales the .vrscene along the X, Y and Z axes.
Pivot Point Adjustments
Moves the pivot to the bottom center of the bounding box.
Moves the pivot to the center of the bounding box.
Moves the pivot to the top of the bounding box.
Resets the pivot to its initial position.
Minimum bounding box value on X / Y / Z axis.
Center bounding box value on X / Y / Z axis.
Maximum bounding box value on X / Y / Z axis. |
Local Coordinates – Uses the local coordinate when adjusting the pivot point. The local coordinate system is specific to each individual object. The X, Y, and Z axes are aligned relative to the object's transformation.
World Coordinates – Uses the world coordinate when adjusting the pivot. The world coordinate system is the global reference frame for the entire scene. The X, Y, and Z axes are always aligned with the scene’s global orientation.
X – Displays and specifies the selected pivot's position on the X axis. The value is World or Local coordinate space dependent.
Y – Displays and specifies the selected pivot's position on the Y axis. The value is World or Local coordinate space dependent.
Z – Displays and specifies the selected pivot's position on the Z axis. The value is World or Local coordinate space dependent.
Move Along Spline
Speed – Specifies the speed of the file while moving along the spline.
Offset – Specifies the file's forward offset from the starting point of the spline, measured in scene units. Useful e.g. for making the animation start from the middle of the spline.
Animation – Specifies the behavior of the animation after being played. It can loop, stop, hide, or extrapolate.
Follow Spline – When enabled, the file aligns with the centerline of the spline, automatically following its path and maintaining the same direction as the spline.
