Installation


The installation of the tools come comes with the installation of V-Ray 5 for 3ds Max, update 1 and later.

To access the scripttools, in 3ds Max go to:

||Vantage toolbar|| > Initiate a Live-Link to Chaos Vantage (VantageToolbar_VantageLinkImage Modified)

To access the script, go to

||Vantage toolbar|| >Chaos Vantage Live Link settings (Image Modified)

Usage

Detect if you are using V-Ray 5 GPU as a renderer and ask if you would like to switch to it.

  • Start Chaos Vantage if it is not already running.
  • Send the scene to Chaos

    To use the script, just click on the Initiate Live Link

     

    to Chaos Vantage button and a live link session will be initialized between 3ds Max and Chaos Vantage. The script will automatically:

    To stop a Live Link session, click again on the Initiate Live Link  to Vantage button.

    Open The Vantage Live Link settings dialog, available by clicking the Chaos Vantage Live Link settings dialog settings button, allows you to specify Portport, frame timeout, as well as object render state. 

    IP AddressShows the IP address that the live link Live Link connection connects to.

    Port – Specifies the port at which the Live link Link connection is started.

    Frame timeout – Sets а specified time in seconds between frames to ensure data transfer for the next frame has begun.

    Enable Object Render State – When enabled, uses Render states/counts/iterations/modes instead of their viewport representation. Anima 4D assets require this option to be enabled to be rendered properly. Enabling this option саn affect the interactivity of Live link Link updates.

    The Chaos Vantage Live Link Settings MAX script is settings tool is available with V-Ray 6 for 3ds Max, update 2 and later when using Chaos Vantage 2.2 and later.

    To use the tool, just click the Initiate a Live-Link to Chaos Vantage button and a Live Link session will be initialized between 3ds Max and Chaos Vantage. The tool automatically:

    Live Link Supported Features


    The following changes made in the V-Ray compatible DCC are propagated through Live Link:

    The following actions can be done inside Chaos Vantage during Live Link:

    • edit environment and fog;

    • add color correction effects;

      • snapshots;

      • HQ still image;

      • HQ sequence;

    • save .vantage file with the changes from above.

    The following requires a restart of the Live Link session in order to be updated properly.

    During Live Link session the UI in Chaos Vantage adapts to the limitations mentioned in the Known limitations section. The following is hidden from the Top Toolbar and Side panels:

    • Chaos Cosmos Browser,
    • Create Scatter, Fur, Decal, Lights, Camera and Scene State tools
    • Lights and Object tabs
    • Material lister in Material tab
    • Sun properties in the Environment tab if there is a Sun light already existing in the Host application

    When in Live Link session, changes made to the camera, render resolution, environment and scattered fog inside Vantage will be reset to their values or states in the host platform when:

    • playing animation/scrubbing the timeline in the host platform
    • navigating or camera manipulating
    • using Render animation with Chaos Vantage tool (available in 3ds Max and Maya)

    When the Live Link session is closed, the scene is still loaded inside Vantage but it is considered dirty and the aforementioned limitations are still in effect. A .vrscene file from the host application needs to be exported and loaded inside Chaos Vantage to enable full manipulation, editing and playback.

    If a .vantage file is saved in an active Live Link session, it can be loaded in a next session or applied to a loaded .vrscene.
