Overview

The Chaos License comes with each Chaos product installation, and no Chaos product can function without an active license. One active license gives you access to all of your Chaos products. There are different types of licenses - Solo/Fixed licenses and Premium/Floating licenses.

The Solo and Fixed Chaos plans are more suited for individual users, while the Premium and Floating plans can be used by both individuals and teams. The activation workflows vary depending on your subscription plan and role.

Solo and Fixed Plans

...

Chaos products are sold under a named or a floating license.

Named licenses allow dedicated access to individual users, while floating licenses can be shared among a team of users.

Named Licenses

...

Named licenses allow users to have dedicated access to their software from any device where they log in with their Chaos account.

A named-user license is dedicated to one specific person, giving them access to the software on any machine. One license can only be used on one device at a time.

To use your named licenseTo activate your Solo/Fixed license, you need to:

  1. Perform a default product installation.
  2. Enter Start using your product and you will be prompted to log in with your Chaos account credentials when prompted.
  3. When you successfully log in, you can use your license is active.

For more details, see the Solo and Fixed Named Licenses page.

  • The administrator of an Organization (the owner of an active commercial Chaos account) enables the Floating license sharing option.
  • The administrator invites users to the Organization.
  • Users accept the invitation and log in/create a Chaos account.

For more information see the Cloud-Based Floating Licensing page.

Licenses

...

Floating licenses can be shared among multiple users on a first-come, first-served basis and don’t need to be assigned to an individual user.

Floating licenses are ideal for creating a pool of licenses that can be used by multiple users, who do not need to have dedicated access to our products.

For example, a pool of 10 floating licenses can be shared between 20 (or any number of users). Any of the users can access the software at any time, as long as there is an available license in the pool. The only limit is the concurrent usage of licenses, in this case only 10 users can use the software at the same time. Named licenses require the number of licenses to match the number of users (e.g. 20).

Teams sharing licenses

Sharing can be done in one oftwo ways:

  • Cloud-Based Floating Licensing (recommended): The administrator shares a pool of Floating licenses with the Organization's Users, and when they log in with their Chaos accounts, they can use the floating licenses through the cloud from any location. See how to set it up in the Cloud-Based Floating License section of this page.
  • Remote Licensing: The administrator installs the Chaos License Server on a centrally accessible machine within a local network. The users will need to configure their Chaos product to connect to this centralized network location to access a license. This method is explained in the Installing the Product for Network Floating Licensing page

  • The administrator installs the Chaos License Utility locally by performing a default product installation. This machine can use the license, but it also serves as a connection point for others to connect to the license.
  • The administrator shares their IP address with others within the same local network. A VPN can also be used to share the license within a remote network.
  • Users perform an Advanced Chaos product installation, choosing the Remote Licensing option.

One Premium/Floating license can be used by one individual at the same time. Users can take turns to use the license but not use it simultaneously. If you wish more users to work with Chaos product at the same time, you need to acquire more licenses.

  • The administrator assigns licenses directly to users in the Organization.
  • Users then install the licenses locally on their machines.

This is not a shared license, it is used only by the user it is assigned to.

How do I login to use my Chaos license?

...

You can use your Chaos account to log in and access your Chaos product. The Chaos product will prompt you to log in as needed.

Our products require a valid license, associated with a Chaos account. When you create a Chaos account you can use it with all of our products. Your existing Enscape, V-Ray, Anima or Veras logins are all Chaos accounts and work for all our products.

If you are an individual customer and you have made the purchase with us yourself - the license is already associated with your account. You can start using it as soon as you login.

If you are part of a team, then your Chaos Organization administrator needs to invite you to the organization and provide you with access to our products.

...

For more information on managing your licenses in the my.chaos portal, read the articles in this section of our online documentation
