This section contains links to Geometry objects and tools in V-Ray for Maya.
Overview
V-Ray for Maya adds a number of geometry objects and tools for use with V-Ray. See the links below for more information.
Geometry objects and tools are available from a number of places in the user interface, most commonly from Create menu > VRay or the V-Ray Shelf.
Virtual Geometry
V-Ray provides a number of tools that create virtual geometry in the scene that looks like real geometry at render time, as opposed to actual meshes.
Proxy Objects Allows an external mesh to be imported at render time only. |
Procedural Fur Creates simple procedural fur at render time only but not present during editing. |
Infinite Plane Creates an infinite plane at render time that will have no visible end. |
Metaballs and iso-Surfaces Geometric primitive that can create a raytraced iso-surface out of an existing particle system. |
Section Clipper Geometric primitive that can clip away parts of the scene without modifying the actual geometry. |
Renderable Curve Turns a curve into a renderable object, without intermediate conversion to paint effects or polygons. |
V-Ray Decal Projects one material on top of another. |
V-Ray Enmesh Uses geometry as a texture to “coat” objects. |
|
Modified Geometry
Geometry Displacement Allows higher detail to be added to a geometry object through displacement. |
NURBS Tessellation Node that controls the quality of the NURBS subdivision of multiple NURBS surfaces. |
|
Asset Inspection and Management
V-Ray Mesh Viewer This tool previews V-Ray mesh and alembic files. Can display both static and animated meshes. |
Scene Manager Used to manage VRayScene files. It is useful for moving entire assets between platforms. |
