This page provides information on activating and using your Corona Free Trial.
Overview
Chaos offers a free trial of Corona for 3ds Max before purchasing. The trial period has no restrictions within the software such as watermarks. This means that what you see in the trial is exactly what you will get if you have a paid subscription.
The Corona Free Trial activation consists of the following steps:
- Register a new account or sign into an existing one at www.chaos.com.
- Download Corona.
- Install Corona.
- Start your trial.
The steps below guide you as a first-timer on how to activate the trial license.
Steps
The steps for activating the trial vary depending on the Corona version you are using:

Create an Account
Register an account in order to use and activate the trial, or use an existing Chaos account. For new users, please use this link to register an account: https://accounts.chaos.com/register
Once registered, you will receive an email from Chaos to confirm your account. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder in case it has been filtered there. If you still cannot find the email from Chaos, please contact the Chaos support team for further assistance using this link: Contact Support
Download Trial Product
Go to the Chaos download page to download the latest release. This can be found here: https://my.chaos.com/download/build?product=Corona
Install Trial Product
Run the installer and complete the installation process as explained on the Installation Process page.
Go to the address http://localhost:30304/ and:
- If you see a green dot next to Online licensing and a Corona icon listed under your products - you are good to go!
- If you see a Sign in button - click on it and proceed with the sign in process.
Activate License
Open up 3ds Max and set the renderer to Corona. You are presented with a pop-up window.
Click Get a free trial and follow the prompts.
Note: If you cannot see the Get a free trial button in the pop-up window, close the window and try again by setting Corona as your active renderer or starting a render.
Sign into your account to activate the trial.
Complete the short survey to continue and finalize the activation process.
Back in 3ds Max, the Chaos licensing pop-up window should disappear.
Chaos Corona for 3ds Max is now active on your system. You can confirm this from the Render Setup > System > About Chaos Corona/Licensing rollout.
A successful activation switches the "Activate license" button to the "Online help" button.
Alternatively, you can also check the status of your license in the Chaos License Server.

Download Trial Product

Install Trial Product
Run the installer and complete the installation process as explained on the Installation Process page.
Activate License
Open up 3ds Max. Go to Render Setup > Renderer and set Corona as your active renderer.
In the Render Setup window, go to System > About Corona and click Activate license...
You are presented with a pop-up window with various options. Click Activate Trial and follow the prompts.
Sign into your account to activate the trial.
Complete the short survey to continue and finalize the activation process.
Go to the address http://localhost:30304/ and:
- If you see a Sign in button - click on it and proceed with the sign in process. That's all!
- If you see a green dot next to Online licensing and a Corona icon listed under your products - you are good to go!
Back in 3ds Max, you may notice that the activation window is still open. Click Retry to close this.
Chaos Corona for 3ds Max is now active on your system. You can confirm this by going to Render Setup > System > About Chaos Corona/Licensing. If your license is active, you will see the Online Help button instead of the Activate license... button.
Alternatively, you can also check the status of your license in the Chaos License Server.
