This page provides a quick starting point for working with Scatter in Chaos Envision.

Only Cosmos objects can be scattered.



Scatter Objects on Surface


To scatter an object onto a surface follow these steps:

  • Click the Scatter () toolbar button or go to the Create menu and select the Scatter option.

  • Pick a surface or multiple surfaces to scatter the objects on. Click Done in the top toolbar when ready.

  • To add more surfaces, go to the Targets tab and click Add new objects for scattering. Pick the object in the viewport or in the Objects tab (left-hand side panel).

  • In the Layers tab, click on New Layer to expand it and access the Models field for this layer.

  • Open the Cosmos library in the bottom expandable tab by clicking the Cosmos () button.

  • Pick a Cosmos asset and drag it into the Models field of the Scatter layer. Pick as many assets as you like. You can delete the extra ones with the Remove () tool.

  • Adjust the Density and Max angle to up vector values. If necessary, specify exclusion areas too – they can be geometry or splines.

Selection highlighting can be quickly toggled on and off with the H hotkey, or through the View menu > Scene Selection Highlighting.



Scatter Objects on Spline


To scatter an object onto splines follow these steps:

  • Click the Scatter () toolbar button or go to the Create menu and select the Scatter option.

  • Pick a spline or multiple splines to scatter the objects on. Click Done in the top toolbar when ready.

  • To add more splines, go to the Targets tab and click Add new objects for scattering. Pick the spline in the viewport or from the Objects tab.

  • In the Layers tab of the Scatter object, click on New Layer to expand it and access the Models field for this layer.

  • Open the Cosmos Cosmos library in the bottom expandable tab by clicking the Cosmos () button.

  • Pick a Cosmos asset and drag it into the Models field of the Scatter layer. Pick as many assets as you like. You can delete the extra ones with the Remove () tool.

  • Adjust the distribution parameters. If necessary, specify exclusion areas too – they can be geometry or splines.

Selection highlighting can be quickly toggled on and off with the H hotkey, or through the View menu > Scene Selection Highlighting.
