Overview

While Enscape might work in some Virtual Environments, we can’t officially support running Enscape on virtual machines, so we strongly recommend using Enscape on a PC that meets our System Requirements. This is due to the fact that Enscape needs direct control of the graphics hardware, and fast response times are essential for Enscape to work. The approach of T4, P4, A10, or GRID cards to exchange data via PCI Express is not reliably accessible for Enscape via Vulkan.

Enscape has also not been tested on virtualization or server based graphics cards such as the NVIDIA A Series, TESLA, or GRID Series, so while they could potentially run Enscape, we can’t actively provide assistance in a support case.  However, if you must run Enscape via a Virtual Desktop, we recommend the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • Due to the high amount of VRAM usage due to the GPU needing to visualize other components within the virtual environment, such as the browser and any other software, you should allocate anywhere from 8-12GB of VRAM to each Enscape user.
  • The following settings should be disabled and remain off to avoid crashes, excessive memory usage, or other anomalous behavior:
    • Hardware Accelerated Ray Tracing
    • NVIDIA DLSS
    • NVIDIA Shadow Denoiser
    • NVIDIA Global Illumination Denoiser
  • You should also reduce the size of textures or assets to avoid performance issues.
  • Remove or hide any tessellated geometry, such as pipes, wiring/cables, or unnecessary furniture.
  • Users should only use Medium quality and switch to High quality when final renders are completed to avoid crashes.
  • If using Revit, section boxes should be used when possible.

Please note that even if the above steps are implemented, we cannot guarantee that Enscape will work properly within your virtual environment. We recommend that you utilize a workstation that meets our published system requirements.

If you’re having trouble with the mouse input on your VDI system, please try to activate the “Enable Relative Mouse” option (Options Enable Relative Mouse) in your VMware Horizon client. Please refer to this article for more details.

This option is not available in the WebClient.
