This page provides information on support for MaterialX in V-Ray for Maya.

Overview

MaterialX is an open standard for exchanging look-development data between DCC applications and renderers by standardizing the way of describing shading graphs. V-Ray supports rendering USD files with MaterialX shaders and changing the material assignments.

With V-Ray support for LookDevX, you can create and edit MaterialX shaders in the LookDevX editor with interactive updates in IPR, or create V-Ray shading networks in LookDevX. Native Maya shading networks created with V-Ray can be exported to MaterialX with the new built-in tool.

Simple loading of .mtlx with the new VRayMaterialX loader material allows assigning MaterialX shaders directly onto native Maya geometry outside of a USD stage.

Discover how V-Ray 6, update 2 integrated MaterialX into V-Ray for Maya and Houdini's Solaris for effortless shader graph exchange and seamless collaboration.
