This page gives some basic information about what V-Ray Swarm is and how to get it up and running.

Overview

...

The new V-Ray Swarm is a web-based distributed rendering system. It’s a simple, yet powerful way to split your rendering across multiple computers.   Setting up Swarm is easy. Swarm is designed to update automatically to match your version of V-Ray.

For information on how to use and configure Swarm after installation, see the Swarm Settings page.

Installation

...

The V-Ray Swarm installation is bundled within the V-Ray for Rhino installation by default.

Installation Process

V-Ray Swarm can be installed either as a separate installer that can be downloaded from https://download.chaosgroup.com or bundled together with V-Ray for Rhino in a single installer.

V-Ray Swarm installer will automatically remove any previous installations. If you experience problems, you can manually uninstall the currently installed version to perform a clean install.

  • You have to install Swarm on all render machines. Note that it is not necessary to install Rhino on those machines.
  • Each machine participating in the render job requires a V-Ray Render Node license. This includes the workstation initiating the rendering process. All Render Node licenses must be of the same version.
  • The License Server doesn't have to be installed on each Swarm node. With both dongle and online licenses, the license server can be installed on one machine from which all other machines obtain licenses.

1) Please read over the license agreement. To continue with the installation process, click the I Agree button.

In the example shown, the default IP address 127.0.0.1 is used. It is a special designation for the localhost, i.e. "this computer". If you are working in an office environment, you may need to speak with your IT professional for the correct IP address of your license server.

4) By default, V-Ray Swarm's Network Discovery is set up to auto-discover machines on the network. If the Use auto-discovery option is disabled, the custom configuration of the manually set Coordinator becomes available. This option is suitable if there is more than one subnet in the LAN or if you want to dedicate one or more machines to be Coordinators. You may choose three machines as coordinators: one primary Coordinator (Coordinator IP) and two alternate coordinators.
