Overview

This guide serves is to serve as a reference for downloading and installing installation of V-Ray for Unreal.

A complete installation of V-Ray for Unreal consists of:

In order to complete a full installation of V-Ray for Unreal, you need to run the provided installer.

If you are a trial user, please refer to the Trial installation, as the process differs from the one showed on this page.

 

Downloading V-Ray for Unreal

You can download the latest official version of V-Ray for Unreal from http://www.chaosgroup.com by using the Download V-Ray for Unreal button with the account supplied to you by Chaos Group or your reseller.

Go to Downloads and enter your account credentials:

Filter the results to find the V-Ray for Unreal product. Click on the Download for Windows x64 and save the VRayForUnrealvray_adv_5####_unreal_x64.exe file file.

Installing V-Ray for Unreal

A complete installation of V-Ray for Unreal consists of:

The V-Ray installer should not be run using administrative privilege.

    A full installation of V-Ray for Unreal can be completed by running the provided installer.

     

    The License server and the link to set up the license will be automatically installed.

    The V-Ray installer will automatically remove any previous installations. This will allow you to seamlessly upgrade from previous versions. If you experience problems you can manually uninstall the previous versions to perform a clean install. See the Uninstall V-Ray page.

    Before running the installation, make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges.

    To start the installation, double-click the installation file.

     

    1. You will be presented with the license agreement. Please take a moment to read it. Click I agree to continue.

     

     

    Before installing V-Ray for Unreal, please make sure you do not have the Unreal Editor running.

    2. In this screen you can select for which Unreal Engine version to install V-Ray

    for Unreal make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges and double-click VRayForUnreal.exe to run the installer:

    To complete the installation follow these steps:

    1. You will be presented with the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT. Please take a moment to review the agreement. Click the I Agree button to proceed:

    2. Next, you can select the installation type. The installer should automatically detect the root folder for the versions of Unreal you have selected. You can also choose to customize the installation. If you choose to install V-Ray as Standalone render slave, then the Customize button will become unavailable and V-Ray will be installed in C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for Unreal.

    3. If you have selected the Workstation installation, you will see the full list of customizable settings: 

    . You can choose more than one version at once.

    Click the Install button to proceed with standard installation. If you need to customize your V-Ray installation, press the Advanced button. The Advanced installation lets you choose whether to install the License Server, Chaos Cloud Client.

    V-Ray type

    In this step you can choose the installation type for V-Ray. The available type are:

    Workstation – This is a full installation and includes all components as described in the “Installation overview” section. It allows you to use V-Ray in Unreal, do Distributed Rendering, run V-Ray GPU render server, use V-Ray SDK, and have V-Ray license server on this machine. 
    Standalone only     – This installation includes V-Ray Standalone and V-Ray GPU render server. Please choose this option if you plan to use this machine only for Distributed Rendering with V-Ray Standalone and a V-Ray GPU render server.

    Press the Continue button to proceed with the installation.

    Additional Components

    In this step you can opt to install the License Server and Chaos Cloud Client. Press the Continue button to proceed with the installation.

    Settings

    You can optimize V-Ray for Revit installation in this step by manually setting the location folder where V-Ray for supported Unreal versions will be installed.

    4. After you choose the installation type you can click the Next button and adjust the additional installation settings:

    License Server X.X.X - enable this to install the License Server along with

    Allows you to specify an installation location for V-Ray for Unreal.

    Licensing

    In this step, you can specify whether the V-Ray

    license server? – specifies whether the

    License Server will run locally or on another machine

    within your network

    .

    Selected

    If you select the

    Remote V-Ray license server on the network option requires filling

    option Remote, you will have to fill in the IP address of

    the machine where the License Server is running on your network in the field

    your V-Ray license server in the field Primary License Server.

    It is recommended to leave

    Please, leave the port 30304 unchanged. An Alternate License Server is used when the primary one does not respond.

    5. Click Install Now to begin the installation.

    6. If the installation was successful, you can press the Finish button.

    3. The installer first checks for running applications and prompts you to stop them, if there are such.

    4. Your installation is completed. On the last screen resides the usage statistics collection option. For more information on the Chaos Telemetry, follow the link. Also, you can check the Open the release notes file option to open the release notes file after the installation.

    License Server

    The License Server installation window will appear once the V-Ray installation has finished.
