This guide is to serve as a reference for installation of V-Ray for Unreal.

A complete installation of V-Ray for Unreal consists of:

  • V-Ray
  • V-Ray License Server
  • Chaos Cloud Client app
  • Online Licensing Documentation


In order to complete a full installation of V-Ray for Unreal, you need to run the provided installer.

If you are a trial user, please refer to the Trial installation, as the process differs from the one showed on this page.


Downloading V-Ray for Unreal

Download V-Ray for Unreal


You can download the latest official version of V-Ray for Unreal by using the Download V-Ray for Unreal button with the account supplied to you by Chaos or your reseller.

Click on the Download for Windows x64 and save the vray_adv_5####_unreal_x64.exe file.

Installation Steps

The V-Ray installer should not be run using administrative privilege.

The V-Ray installer will automatically remove any previous installations. This will allow you to seamlessly upgrade from previous versions. If you experience problems you can manually uninstall the previous versions to perform a clean install. See the Uninstall V-Ray page.

Before running the installation, make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges.

To start the installation, double-click the installation file.


1. You will be presented with the license agreement. Please take a moment to read it. Click I agree to continue.






2. In this screen you can select for which Unreal Engine version to install V-Ray. You can choose more than one version at once.

Click the Install button to proceed with standard installation. If you need to customize your V-Ray installation, press the Advanced button. The Advanced installation lets you choose whether to install the License Server, Chaos Cloud Client.

V-Ray type

In this step you can choose the installation type for V-Ray. The available type are:

Workstation – This is a full installation and includes all components as described in the “Installation overview” section. It allows you to use V-Ray in Unreal, do Distributed Rendering, run V-Ray GPU render server, use V-Ray SDK, and have V-Ray license server on this machine. 
Standalone only
 – This installation includes V-Ray Standalone and V-Ray GPU render server. Please choose this option if you plan to use this machine only for Distributed Rendering with V-Ray Standalone and a V-Ray GPU render server.

Press the Continue button to proceed with the installation.





Additional Components

In this step you can opt to install the License Server and Chaos Cloud Client. Press the Continue button to proceed with the installation.






You can optimize V-Ray for Unreal installation in this step by manually setting the location folder where V-Ray for supported Unreal versions will be installed. This page is accessible if nothing in Host app version page is selected.

Install V-Ray for Unreal Engine 4.## – Enabled the installation of V-Ray for Unreal for the specified Unreal Engine version.
Unreal Engine 4.## plugins location – Allows you to specify an installation location for V-Ray for Unreal. A path to Unreal's Plugins folder must be specified e.g  C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_4.26\Engine\Plugins






In this step, you can specify whether the V-Ray License Server will run locally or on another machine.

If you select the option Remote, you will have to fill in the IP address of your V-Ray license server in the field Primary License Server. Please, leave the port 30304 unchanged. An Alternate License Server is used when the primary one does not respond.






3. The installer first checks for running applications and prompts you to stop them, if there are such.





Then it automatically uninstalls all old versions.






4. Your installation is completed. On the last screen resides the usage statistics collection option. For more information on the Chaos Telemetry, follow the link. Also, you can check the Open the release notes file option to open the release notes file after the installation.
