This page provides information about the installation of actors in Chaos Anima.

The information in this page is about legacy Anima versions up to 5.6.

Installing Purchased Actors

All the Metropoly® characters are available in the native Anima format (*.y) and, once purchased, you can download them from your user control panel under the Order or the Download sections.

Both the purchased and the subscription models will be downloaded into the “Purchases” folder that is defined in the preferences panel (anima® icon menu > preferences).

To edit the path, click on the 3 dots icon at the right side of the setting and choose the new location:

There are 4 ways to install the actors:

  1. Direct Download from Anima (you must be logged in with your account).
  2. Download Auto-detection: anima® will automatically detect and install all the new *.y files found in the windows “downloads” folder. So If you download a purchased collection or any other compressed model, you’ll need to extract it inside that same folder for anima® to detect it.
  3. Manual copy: you can install them by manually copying only the “*.y” files directly in the “\Purchases\models” (Posed, Ambient, Rigged) or the “\Purchases\streams” (4D models) folder.
  4. Manual drag’n’drop: Drag and drop those *.y files to the anima viewport. Please note that this must be done directly with the *.y files, not the folders or the zipped packages.

NETWORK RENDERING:  On anima® version 4.1.1 or older, the purchases folder must be placed in a network drive and accessible from the Render Nodes. However, this is not needed anymore for newer versions of anima® (4.5.0 or newer) because now the nodes use a resource cache that is placed inside each anima® project folder.

Direct Download from Anima Library

The integration of the website store and account login brings another great feature, while you’re online, the system will automatically keep all your content up to date and notify you of any available content updates.

First, you must log in to your AXYZ design user account:

Then, if there is some fix or improvement on any of your actors, you will know right away and you will be able to update it with just one click.

Also, since version 4.0 you can select and download multiple actors at the same time, they will be managed in an automatic download cue directly from inside the anima® library. You can do it using the right-click over any of the selected actors and then choosing either download or update, depending on the case.

They will be downloaded one after the other and installed automatically in your library right away, without needing to restart anima®. Also, any plugin instance will be notified through the alive™ connection, so it won’t be necessary to restart your 3D application anymore.

Take a look at this video tutorial to see the new download process in action.

Auto-Detection

If you have downloaded your actors to your downloads folder, next time that you open anima®, a pop-up window will appear asking if you will like to install the new assets.

Note that anima® will automatically detect and install all the new *.y files found in the windows “downloads” folder. So if you downloaded a purchased collection or any other compressed model, you’ll need to extract it inside that same folder for anima® to detect it.

After clicking “Yes” another window will confirm that the product has been successfully imported.

The new actor(.y) will be automatically Installed in the Purchases Folder. Depending on the type of model, it will be installed in the “models” (Posed, Ambient, Rigged) or the “streams” (4D models) subfolder.

The thumbnail of the actor will be displayed in the actors’ library under the purchased tab in Editing mode and in the Rigged or ready-posed tabs in Drawing mode, depending on the model.

If you have downloaded your actors into a different folder, you can either drag them to the viewport or copy the files directly into the purchases folder.

Manual Copy

You can install them by manually copying the “*.y” files directly in the corresponding “models” (Posed, Ambient, Rigged) or the “streams” (4D models) subfolder of the “Purchases” path that you have defined in your anima® Preferences, here:

Manual Drag & Drop

Drag and drop the downloaded (and extracted if necessary) anima® format *.y files to the viewport and the actor will be automatically copied to your Purchase folder and will show up in the library.

Please note that this must be done only with the anima® native format files (*.y), not folders nor zipped packages nor any other file format.
