This page gives details on using the Chaos License Server interface.
Overview
The Chaos License Server's interface is accessible in a web browser. Here, you can check the status of your current licenses, borrow licenses for offline use, and access some of the settings. There are a few convenient ways to open the interface.
Accessing the Chaos License Server Interface
Accessing the License Server Interface is different depending on the type of License you are using:
When the Chaos License Server is installed and running on the same machine from which you're trying to access the interface, you can do one of the following:
- Open a browser and type http://127.0.0.1:30304 or http://localhost:30304. The web addresses are interchangeable. They open the License Server management page.
- Alternatively, you can manage the license server through your system:
For Windows, you can use the Start Menu shortcuts, located in the Start Menu > All Apps > Chaos > Manage Chaos License Server. This redirects you to the License Server Interface page.
For Linux, go to Terminal and navigate to the directory of your vrlservice.service file. By default, it is located at /usr/Chaos/VRLService/bin. To start the license server, use sudo systemctl start vrlservice.service. To stop or check the status of the service, replace the start command with stop or status.
For macOS, use sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchAgents/com.chaos_group.vrol.plist to start the service, and sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.chaos_group.vrol.plist to stop the service. These commands are entered in Terminal and will prompt you to enter your macOS user password.
If you wish to access a remote license server's Interface, you can type the_server_IP:30304 in a web browser. For example, if your server IP is 10.0.0.100, then you need to type 10.0.0.100:30304 into your browser. This is because the License Server is not hosted on your machine, and you need to specify the IP address where the browser needs to look for the active Chaos License.
Checking the Status
Within the Chaos License Server Interface, you can browse and sort through all of your Chaos licenses and check their availability. To do so, click on the license page of any of the products you have a license for, then select the specific product you want to expand.
The License Type depends on the type of product you have acquired - Render Nodes have a Render License type, and host app plugins have an Interface License type. Interface licenses are used when a person is working with the hots application. Render licenses are used only when rendering. For Enscape, the Interface license is the only license type; there are no Render licenses for Enscape.
You can filter through Online, Offline, and Dongle licenses that are Available or In Use for the selected product using the dedicated buttons at the top of the expandable menu. Once a license is in use, you will see a flashing red dot next to it when you expand the product's menu.
You can see when a license expires and how long you have left before you need to renew it. Once one of your licenses is close to expiration, you also receive a reminder at the top of the interface.
