This page provides details on how to install the standalone version of V-Ray.

Overview


This guide is to serve as a reference for installing V-Ray Standalone. Please refer to the Glossary section for specific terms used in this document.

You can download the latest official version of V-Ray Standalone from http://www.chaosgroup.com with the account supplied to you by Chaos Group or your reseller.

If you experience any problems, please check the Troubleshooting section. If you are still having problems please contact our support team.


A complete installation of V-Ray Standalone 3.6 consists of:

  • V-Ray Standalone
  • V-Ray tools
  • V-Ray Standalone SDK
  • Documentation  

In order to complete a full installation of V-Ray Standalone you need to:

  1. Install the V-Ray Online License Server. We highly suggest using the latest version available at our website .
  2. Install V-Ray Standalone.

Alternatively, you can have a dongle (hardware lock) set up for licensing as well, in which case you also have to install the appropriate WIBU-KEY drivers for it. For more information visit the Dongle Licensing page or read the optional instructions on how to set it up below.


Preparing for Installation



First, you need to install the V-Ray Online License Server.

Installing the WIBU-KEY drivers for the Dongle


If you also have a V-Ray USB License dongle attached to your workstation/server, you can utilize those available licenses within the online system.

First, you need to download the WIBU-KEY drivers from the official web site:

http://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-software.html

Scroll down to WibuKey for Users section and download the drivers for the OS that V-Ray License server is going to run on.

Note: For Mac OS make sure you download the correct driver for your specific version.

Use your credentials to log-in to our website and download the latest version of  V-Ray License Server and V-Ray Standalone.

Installing V-Ray Standalone


This section walks you through the steps of installing of V-Ray Standalone for different operating systems using the provided installer.

Windows


To install V-Ray Standalone, make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges and double-click the installer to run it:

To complete the installation follow these steps:


1. You will be presented with the V-Ray licensing agreement. Please take a moment to review the agreement. Tick the I accept checkbox to proceed. 


2. During the next step you will see the installation folder.  You can click Customize to adjust some of the installation settings.

 


3. If you choose to adjust the settings you will see the screen below. The options here allow you to specify:

a. V-Ray destination  – The location where V-Ray will be installed.

b. How are you going to connect to the V-Ray license server – Specifies whether the V-Ray license server will run locally or on another machine. If you select “Remote V-Ray license server on the network” you will be given fields to specify the IP address of the machine on which the V-Ray License server is running. Please leave the port 30304 unchanged.

  Common settings for an installation with a local license server and default paths, should look like the screenshot below:



Once you are ready click Install Now.


4. The installer will proceed to uninstall any previous versions and install V-Ray Standalone 3.6. If the installation was successful, you should get the following window.



Press the Finish button.

Mac OS X


To install V-Ray Standalone on Mac OS X, extract the V-Ray installation file in an appropriate folder and double click to run it. Follow the instructions of the installer, identical to the Windows installer, to complete the installation.

It may be necessary to log out and log in again so that some of the changes to the environment variables made by the installer can take effect.

 

Linux


To install V-Ray Standalone in Linux, do the following steps:

1. Unpack the contents of the installation archive to a temporary folder (for example vray_install_dir).

2. Open a console and navigate to the folder.

3. Make sure you have root permissions or use the su or the sudo command to run the installation file.

Example
$ cd vray_install_dir 
$ sudo ./vraystd_adv_30004_linux_x64


4. Follow the instructions of the installer, identical to the Windows installer, to complete the installation.

It may be necessary to log out and log in again so that some of the changes to the environment variables made by the installer can take effect.
