This page gives information about Chaos Cosmos Browser in Revit.

Overview

Chaos Cosmos Content System delivers an asset library of high-quality, render-ready 3D content carefully selected from the rich Chaos ecosystem. It allows Chaos users from their respective Chaos products to browse, place, and render 3D assets in their visualization projects. The asset categories span across vegetation, materials, furniture, accessories, lighting fixtures, vehicles, people, animals, architecture, presets (i.e. ready-to-use predefined sets of 3D models like grass and dandelion lawns, tree avenues, river bed, wild bushes, palm forest, hedges, group of people and more), enmesh-patterns and HDRI skies, organized in four main categories and nine spaces.

In addition, all assets go through a rigorous process of selection and Chaos quality checks to make sure that they work seamlessly in different Chaos renderers (V-Ray 5 and above, V-Ray GPU, Vision, as well as Chaos Vantage) and host apps (3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Maya, Houdini, etc).

Installation

Chaos Cosmos Browser is part of the installations of all Chaos renderers - V-Ray, Corona, and Vantage - and does not require any other specific actions. You can access the downloadable content of the Chaos Cosmos Platform from within the host platform once the renderer's installation is complete.

Usage

To start downloading content from Chaos Cosmos Browser, you have to sign in. Press the Sign in button at the top-right corner and enter your Chaos credentials.

Then, you can use the buttons at the top or use the search tab to find assets. If you press one of the buttons, you can additionally choose between different categories and filters for date, popularity, color, and space. The option to Show downloaded only is also available.

Once you choose an asset, you have to download it. Hover over it and click on the blue icon at the lower-right corner.

Another way to download an asset is to click on it. This reveals additional information. You can see the creator, the category/space/color of the asset, and other additional information. Note that you can see other connected assets by clicking on any of the additional information parameters.

Once the download is complete, a pop-up window will state that the asset is downloaded successfully. Use the Import button to bring the asset into the host platform and place it wherever you want in the scene.

Note that assets can be reused across different host platforms. They are saved locally at the following directoryC:\Users\[User]\Documents\Chaos Cosmos\Packages. The download storage can be configured.

Placement

Cosmos objects appear as native Revit families containing a lightweight geometric representation of the object. Depending on the object type itself, those families are either host-based or freestanding.

When a Cosmos asset is being imported during V-Ray Interactive rendering, the rendering is paused for the time of the import.

Modifications

In V-Ray, the Cosmos objects appear under the Appearance Manager > Objects tab as part of the following categories: Entourage, Fixtures, Furniture, Lighting, Planting.

You can modify the Cosmos assets from within the Objects tab.

Scale – Allows you to scale the Cosmos asset.

Rotation – Allows you to rotate the Cosmos asset around its vertical axis.

Flip Axis – Allows you to flip the Cosmos asset around its horizontal axis.

Randomize/Seed – Defines scale and rotation range (min/max) for the selected items to be randomized. Use the Refresh () button on the right to choose between random combinations. Use the Navigation history arrows () to switch back and forth between random combinations.

Similar to proxies workflow, the replacement of native Revit families with Cosmos objects is supported. For more information, refer to the Objects tab page.

HDRIs

When you download and import an HDRI, the light automatically changes to a Dome light, and the HDRI is assigned to it. You can see the preview of the HDRI in the V-Ray Lights window. For more information, refer to the V-Ray Dome Light page.

Notes

  • Scenes with Chaos Cosmos assets can be rendered in V-Ray Vision.
  • Scenes with Chaos Cosmos assets can be rendered in Chaos Cloud.
  • Scenes with Chaos Cosmos assets can be exported as .vrscene files.
  • Chaos Cosmos assets can be used with LightMix.
  • At render time, Cosmos objects work as V-Ray proxies. For more information, refer to the Proxy Mesh page.
