This article explains the settings and values for the Corona Proxy object.

Overview

The Corona Proxy is Chaos Corona's own proxy solution, helpful in decreasing the number of polygons in the scene and thereby simplifying meshes for the viewport to keep scenes manageable and to bake objects with animation to keep playback at a reasonable frame rate.

Object Properties

Pick from scene – Allows the creation of a new proxy from an object picked from the current scene.

Duplicate to Mesh – Clones the proxy to a regular mesh object.

Reload from disk – Reloads a previously loaded proxy file from a disk.

Proxy file – Allows the loading of a previously saved object as Corona Proxy. To load a proxy file, use the ellipsis ( ... ) button right next to the empty slot.

Keep in memory – When enabled and the visualization method is set to Full Mesh, the model is always loaded into RAM, and this control is ignored.

Do not flush a model from RAM between renders. It increases scene parsing speed and memory consumption when enabled.

Units – Use this parameter to set a specific measurement unit for the proxy object. Depending on the selected unit, the object's size will be affected.

Auto
Kilometers
Meters
Centimeters
Millimeters
Micrometers
Nanometers
Miles
Yards
Feet
Inches

Scale – Defines the scale of a proxy object.

This value is also affected by the use of Cinema 4D's scale tool in "object mode".

Setting the Corona Proxy's units to ''Auto'' will acknowledge the project scale and adapt the object's size accordingly.

Visualization method – These options set the viewport visualization method.

Solid bounding box – Using this option displays the proxy object as a solid box.

Wire bounding box – Using this option displays the proxy object as a wire box.

Point cloud – Using this option displays the proxy object as a cloud made out of points.

The Point Cloud visualization method is the recommended solution, as it makes it easy to see the shape of the proxy object while keeping great viewport performance.

Full mesh – Using this option displays the entire geometry that the proxy object contains as if it wasn't a proxy object.

The Full Mesh option should not be used in cases involving complex geometry, as it does not bring any viewport performance improvement compared to displaying the original geometry.

Point cloud displayed – Defines the level of visibility for the Corona Proxy object in a viewport.

The Point cloud displayed parameter is only available when the Visualization method is set to Point cloud.

Animation

Enable animation – When enabled and if there's animation data included in the proxy file, then the object's animation will start playing.

Mode – These options allow you to select the animation playback method.

Frame offset – Offsets the animation starting point for the Corona Proxy object.

Speed multiplier – Speeds up or slows down the animation playback for the Corona Proxy object.

The animation options are only available if animation data is included in the proxy file.

Materials

Channel 1, 2... n – All materials applied to a Corona Proxy object are listed in this tab in the form of channels. A single material must be assigned per channel. The total number of channels used for a Corona Proxy will vary depending on the materials originally applied to the mesh.

Eyedropper tool – The use of this tool allows for selecting a material to be applied to a specific material channel.

When manually loading a previously saved Corona Proxy, it will appear grey in the viewport. To resolve this, simply copy and drag only the material tags onto the proxy object. Other tags, such as the Polygon Selection, UVW, Phong, and Normals, are copied internally to the proxy. There is no need to duplicate them to the mesh.

When loading a 3D model using the Cosmos Browser tool, the object will be loaded into your scene project as a Corona Proxy with all the required materials already assigned.
