To run V-Ray, you have to:

Overview


This guide is to serve as a reference for installing V-Ray for Cinema 4D. 

If you wish to try out V-Ray for Cinema 4D, please refer to the Free Trial page, as the process differs from the one shown here.

The V-Ray installer can be unpacked and used as a portable version.


Download the latest V-Ray for Cinema 4D



A complete installation of V-Ray for Cinema 4D consists of:

Make sure to always have the latest Cinema 4D updates installed.

Please check the system requirements before installation. When installing consecutively, the V-Ray installer automatically removes any of its previous versions.


OS Specifics




Before running the installation, make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges.

Run the installer. Windows may ask you for permission to run the installer with administrator privileges. Please confirm.


End User License Agreement

Once you've carefully read the License Agreement, click I accept the Agreement if you agree to the terms. Proceed to click the Install button. If you need to customize your V-Ray installation, click the Advanced button.


V-Ray Type

The available installation types are:

Workstation – A full installation that includes V-Ray for Cinema 4D, IPR for Cinema 4D, V-Ray Standalone, V-Ray Tools. 
Standalone – An installation that includes V-Ray Standalone and IPR render server. Please choose this option if you plan to use this machine only for Distributed Rendering with V-Ray Standalone and an IPR render server.


Add firewall exception –  Enabling this option allows the default licensing port (TCP 30304) in the firewall. If you disable it at this step, you will need to manually add firewall exceptions later. 

Install Chaos Scatter – Enable this checkbox to install the Chaos Scatter plugin for Cinema 4D. Chaos Scatter is a powerful instancing tool that allows you to populate large scenes without reducing performance. See more information on the Chaos Scatter page.

Advanced Installation Options

Here you can specify the installation paths. Please check if the default folders are correct.

Help make V-Ray even better – Participate in the improvement decisions for future versions of V-Ray. No intelligence property is violated when agreeing to participate in the feedback program. Chaos doesn't gather scenes, assets, materials, etc. What Chaos receives is user preferences on just a few key render settings and the resulting render times. The point of this feature is to improve V-Ray's performance and the user experience. For more information, see the Chaos Telemetry page.


Licensing

In this step, you can specify whether the V-Ray license server runs locally or on another machine.

If you select the Remote option, you have to fill in the IP address of your V-Ray license server in the field Primary License Server. An Alternate License Server is used when the primary one does not respond.

Please leave the port 30304 unchanged!


Chaos License Server Options

If you choose the Local licensing option, you are presented with the Chaos License Server installation.

At this step, you can choose the license server directory.

Migrate data during installation – When enabled, this feature transfers all of your settings made with earlier versions of the License Server, such as enabled dongle subsystem, proxy settings, etc. When disabled, installs the License Server with all settings at their defaults, and any custom settings from the previous installation are lost.

Add firewall exception – When enabled, the default licensing port (TCP 30304) can pass the firewall. If you disable it at this step, you will need to manually add firewall exceptions later.


Installation

After you click the Install button, the installer uninstalls any previous versions and installs V-Ray on your machine.

If the installer detects any applications that need to be closed, they are listed before being able to continue. Please close them and click Continue.


The V-Ray installation is successful!

Please proceed to the next step - activating your license.



Before running the installation, make sure your macOS account has administrative privileges.

Mount the downloaded .dmg file by double-clicking it and running the V-Ray Installer.

Follow the instructions of the installer.


For V-Ray versions older than V-Ray 6, update 1

On some macOS versions, the OS might present a security message that prevents you from installing. In such cases, right-click on the installer app and select Open, which allows the installation to continue. End User License Agreement

Once you've carefully read the License Agreement, click I accept the Agreement if you agree to the terms.

Proceed to click the Install button. If you need to customize your V-Ray installation, click the Advanced button.
