This section contains links to Geometry objects and tools in V-Ray for Maya.

Overview

V-Ray for Maya adds a number of geometry objects and tools for use with V-Ray. See the links below for more information.

Geometry objects and tools are available from a number of places in the user interface, most commonly from Create menu > VRay or the V-Ray Shelf.

Virtual Geometry

V-Ray provides a number of tools that create virtual geometry in the scene that looks like real geometry at render time, as opposed to actual meshes.

Proxy Objects

Allows an external mesh to be imported at render time only.  Since the proxy object's geometry isn't present in the scene, it will not take up resources and allows the rendering of meshes with triangle counts higher than Maya itself can handle. Find out more: Proxy Objects

Procedural Fur

Creates simple procedural fur at render time. Find out more: VRayFur

Infinite Plane

Creates an infinite plane at render time that will have no visible end. Find out more: VRayPlane

Metaballs and Iso-Surfaces

Creates a raytraced iso-surface out of an existing particle system at render time and is not generated as actual geometry. Find out more: VRayMetaball

Section Clipper

Creates a simple plane at render time that can be used to clip away parts of the scene without modifying the actual scene geometry itself. Find out more: VRayClipper

Renderable Curve

Turns a curve into a renderable object. Find out more: VRayRenderableCurve

Modified Geometry

These V-Ray tools modify geometry.

Geometry Displacement

Allows higher detail to be added to a geometry object through displacement. Find out more: VRayDisplacement

NURBS Tessellation

Adds faces to a NURBS object. Find out more: VRayNURBSTesselation

Asset Inspection and Management

V-Ray provides two tools for asset inspection and management:

Geometry Displacement

Allows higher detail to be added to a geometry object through displacement. Find out more: V-Ray mesh viewer

Scene Manager

Used to manage VRayScene files. It is useful for moving entire assets with all their textures, materials, and lights between platforms. Find out more: Scene Manager

Object Management

V-Ray provides the following tools for object management:

Geometry Displacement

Allows higher detail to be added to a geometry object through displacement. Find out more: VRayDisplacement

NURBS Tessellation
