Product Activation

The Chaos License Server is the bridge between the Chaos Product and the Chaos Account associated with a given license. You cannot use any Chaos product without a license.

You connect to the License Server by installing the license application locally on your machine or connecting to a machine in your local network that runs the License Server with an account with floating licenses. If you are hosting a Chaos License Server with a pool of floating licenses, please see the License Server Deployment page.

Local License Server

When you install V-Ray Standalone with the default installation options, the Chaos License Server installs locally on the same machine.

At the end of the installation, the License Server's interface automatically opens in a browser.

If you are not signed into a Chaos account, go to the Online licensing dropdown menu and select Sign in.

After signing in with your Chaos Account, you can start using V-Ray Standalone.

If you accidentally close the window, you can type 127.0.0.1:30304 / localhost:30304 in a web browser. Keep in mind that you cannot use any Chaos products without an active license!

Remote License Server

Floating Licenses can be shared between multiple users on a first-come, first-served basis and don’t need to be assigned to an individual user.

When setting up floating licenses in a local network, the license administrator installs the Chaos License Server on a machine, which is centrally accessible in the network and authenticates it with an account with floating licenses. Then, each instance of V-Ray Standalone is configured to connect to the IP address of that machine. See the License Server Deployment page for more details.

Here is how to connect to an already set-up License Server:

  • The administrator needs to give you the IP address of the machine that runs the License Server. This serves as your connection point to the Chaos License.
  • When installing your Chaos product, at the Licensing step, select Remote. In the Primary License Server field, type the server IP address that your license administrator gave you. At the end, add the :30304 port.

  • Continue to finish the installation. You are connected to the active licenses after that.

Borrow Licenses for Offline Use

You can also 'borrow' a license to use offline on a machine with unstable or with no internet access. For more information, see the Borrowing Licenses for Offline Use page.
